The Father of help

It’s the 4th of April, the fourth month of the year for 2026. A day that has bought about so much trial, temptation, & almost destruction. On this day, our marriage, our family, our calling & purpose- everything that God has spoken & shown to us - faced massive attack. BUT GOD.

After a very significat & life-altering decision, I sought the Lord and asked if He could reveal what I needed to know right now through his word. I opened to Isaiah 41 - which happens to be the exact word of prophecy verbally spoken to my husband many many years ago in the confinements of his bedroom. “See, I will make you into a threshing sledge, new and sharp, with many teeth. You will thresh the mountains and crush them, and reduce the hills to chaff.” Isaiah 41:15

And also a beautiful reminder that God hasn’t forsaken me; that there is nothing to fear, he will strengthen & help me…

“But you, Israel, my servant,
    Jacob, whom I have chosen,
    you descendants of Abraham my friend,
I took you from the ends of the earth,
    from its farthest corners I called you.
I said, ‘You are my servant’;
    I have chosen you and have not rejected you.
So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ISAIAH 41:8-10

I knew that because of what had taken place this day, the date must have been symbolically significant. 4th of the 4th. 44. In Strongs Hebrew, this means Abiezer - the Father of help. And boy oh boy, He truly is the father of help- full of mercy, forgiveness & absolute undying love for his people & bride- the body of Christ.

So looking deeper, what can we find amidst ‘Abiezer’?

Spiritual Significance in the Era of the Judges

1. Divine Initiative: The narrative underscores that spiritual renewal begins with God’s call, not human readiness.
2. Courage Forged in Community: The Abiezrites move from attempted retaliation against Gideon (6:28-30) to standing with him once the Spirit comes. Revival proved contagious.
3. Small Beginnings: Gideon’s “vintage” may have been numerically small, yet faith multiplied its impact.

Theological Reflections

1. Covenant Faithfulness: The LORD preserves households that respond to His call, weaving their names into redemptive history.
2. Leadership Development: The transformation of Gideon and the appointment of the Anathothite show that God equips leaders both spiritually (by His Spirit) and practically (through disciplined military structure).
3. Typological Hint: Gideon’s deliverance prefigures the greater salvation accomplished by Christ, who likewise saves not by numbers but by divine power.

Practical Applications

• Personal weakness is no barrier when God clothes a believer with His Spirit.
• Families and local communities can shift from compromise to courageous witness.
• Faithful service, whether in obscure agrarian settings or in royal courts, contributes to the unfolding plan of God.

God’s mercy & grace is truly too much to comprehend. Today I experienced the undying love, compassion, mercy, forgiveness & sacrifice of Christ through my husband. Through his yielding unto the Lords spirit, and ultimately sacrificial obedience to the word of God…

“Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing[a] her by the washing with water through the word,  and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.  In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.  After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—  for we are members of his body.” Ephesians 5:22-30
